Healthy You Challenge

Diana over at Scale Junkie has set a Healhty You Challenge (HYC) to give those of us who need a littel support in becoming healthier. Whatever your health goals are, to increase your exercise, loss weight, eat better, this is a great way to obtain online support from people who are running the same race as you are. Click here to read about the challenge.

This is my story, to eat better, to increase my movement, and lose weight. I would like to lose a total of 90 pounds but that is a real turn off. After all, who wants to wait that long. I have to decided to break my weight loss goal into small sub-goals. My first goal is to lost 20 pounds by 6/6/09, my daughters high school graduation.

Here are my results as of Saturday, March 28th.

That 2.5 pound lose was my first week and I consider that great due to the fact that we had three sports banquets/pot lucks that week. Last Saturday when I weighed in I found myself with no loss but no gain.

I am finding out that sodium really makes a big difference in my weight especially when I don't drink at least eight glasses of water. I was doing really good with the water until middle of the second week. Not sure why but the water consumption drop way off again. Also, I believe increasing my activity was also starting to help, but I started to fall into old habits fast with that too.

I haven't given up, everyday is a new day. As I post this I have already eaten a healthy breakfast (something I usually don't) and have planned snacks for the day.

I believe that hearing from others with a common goal is a great support system. With that in mind I have joined the world of Twitter. You can get the link to follow me in my sidebar. I encourage others to do the same and follow each other. We can post our sucesses and bombs and encourage each other on to a healthier life. I won't deny I am still getting used to this Twitter thing, if you have text messaging you can do it all through texting once you have it set up, it's actually a very easy way to stay in touch.

So how about it, want to take the Twitter Update challenge with me and encourage each other into a healthier life style?

I know, it's not healthy to spend a lot of time on the computer or our phones :-), but the support will be great.

I can't get on the Twitter bandwagon. You know me and technology. Maybe someday. But that doesn't mean I'm not in your corner. I pray for your success. You can do it!

Congratulations on making a serious committment. I have a Twitter account but not the faintest idea of how to Twitter. I need a coach. Hope to find one in NJ among my young nieces and nephews..... xo

Yeah for those 2.5 pounds! That's great, Sheryl!
I am a Twitter dummy. I've figured out how to post and follow, but that's about it. :)

Hi Sheryl!
Glad you stopped by today! Congrats on losing 2.5 lbs. That's GREAT! Keep it up...I know you'll reach your goal by June, maybe sooner!

So, how does it feel knowing your girls will be off to college soon? Brittany still has another year left, but it's rapidly sneaking up on us. Whenever I think about it, my eyes well up with tears. This letting go stuff sure isn't easy!

Congrats on the 2.5 gone! I spend way too much time online, I just can't do the Twitter thing, too. But I will check in with you on HYC updates!

Making a plan is crucial so you are already off to a good start!

Just keep pushing on and we'll get there =) I need to increase my water intake too, especially this week. I tend to forget about it...

Congrats on losing 2.5 pounds. I was working toward the same goal when I fell off the wagon a few weeks ago. I am back on track and hoping to see some results soon:0)

Good luck! It's a good goal to have, and I hope it goes well for you. Sparkpeople is another great resource and community for support -- keeping a food diary makes such a different (and trust me, I know on that one!). Try measuring your waist, hips, arms, and neck. Many times even when you aren't losing pounds, you're slimming up with muscle mass and can see a difference in measurements when the weight stays the same. Good luck!

2.5 pounds down is awesome! Congratulations! Starting with smaller goals helps you get to your final one. I know you can make that 20 pounds by June!
