Healthier You Challenge

Diana over at Scale Junkie has set a Healhty You Challenge (HYC) to give those of us who need a littel support in becoming healthier. Whatever your health goals are, to increase your exercise, loss weight, eat better, this is a great way to obtain online support from people who are running the same race as you are. Click here to read about the challenge.

This is my story, to eat better, to increase my movement, and lose weight.

This is really sad, I have never weighed this much before. I'm not even sure if I ever topped out here when I was pregnant. I would like to think that I am the type the can set a goal and go for it. Who needs those baby steps......I do, my first goal is to lose 20 pounds by my daughter's high school graduation (June 6).

I got on the treadmill Saturday and after only 15 minutes of moderate walking I could feel pain in my lower back and hips. I got on the Wii Fit last night and after 15 minutes felt it again. I am too young for this. How can I help God further the kingdom if I can't even further myself more then 15 minutes of movement.

Current hobbies:

  • Reading
  • Blogging
  • Movies
  • Napping
  • Eating, lots of salt, little water intake, too much diet coke

Tell me what wrong with that story, am I a disaster waiting to happen? Not to mention the weight gain is screwing up my thyroid medicine, which is probably why I want to nap more; and if I take off some of this weight I might actually be freed from the CPAP machine.

New goals for this week:

  • Move for 15 minutes a day
  • Reduce salt intake, I realize food has different tastes, however everything to me taste salty. I need to find the true taste of the food I am eating.
  • 1-2 diet cokes a day. I know this seems like a lot, but your are looking at someone who could easily drink a six pack.
  • Drink 8 cups a water each day.

With health issues present why do we still continue our old habits? Because they're comfortable and familiar to us. It's time to break the cycle. I want to be around to see and play with my grandkids.

Stop by next week and see how I am doing, I'll be honest.

Nice! I may join this... I've been trying so hard for the last year and always fall off the wagon. I gave up soda 3 months ago and now when I have even just a sip, it tastes gross. I'm all about water with lemon! My downfall now is sweet tea - sugar sugar sugar, but in my mind it's better than soda. :) You can do it!

Hmm... your hobbies look a lot like mine. Best of luck to you. I had a wicked Diet Coke habit. Could go through a Coke 2 liter in a day. Like Leslie, I had to give it up for a while cold turkey till I lost the taste. Now I have one every once in a while. I don't buy it for the house either too dangerous for me. So now when I have it it taste a little funny. I found It was the only way I could go off it. Diet coke is tough because it's so good once you love it. What do they put in that stuff?

You sound so much like me! I could drink 6 or 7 diet pepsis a day. I have cut back and am trying to drink more water. I tend to be on the computer a lot because I am working and bored! :( Once I start watching children - that will change!! ha! Have a happy day!

I always seem to connect with your posts, Sheryl. This one is no different. I have a couple of health problems that would certainly clear up with weight loss.
Good luck with those 20 pounds! You can do it, Sheryl! Keep us posted on your progress. :)

Welcome to HYC! Take it one step at a time. Your body will gain strength and endurance if you keep active and slowly build up the time. And it's so worth it to make those healthy changes in eating and activity!

One day at a time. Sometimes one HALF DAY at a time. I am trying to FEEL hungry before I take a bite. Start slow. Take a nice walk. Don't overdo it. Just walk slowly. Every day there will be improvement. I notice a lot of restful things on your list (said with love)..... hugs, xoxo

I love that you don't lie to yourself!! I do ALL THE TIME!! If I really wanted to lose the 15 lbs I'v been hoping for...then I would. I am actually a pretty active person, but I never consciously say...Hrm, I need to work out!! So, I try and disguise my routine with teaching dance classes and snowboarding...but lets face it...a couple to three times a week isn't gonna cut it...! Well, I wish you luck, and I'll check in with ya soon!

Thanks for stopping by my blog today :). And for the link for the Healthy You Challenge. If you like challenges, you should see my blog (http://southernrose.wordpress.com/2009/03/25/change-will-do-you-good/), if you didn't already, about a 14-day drink more water challenge. If you already have it as a goal, it's worth it 'cause you can be entered to win a prize as well. But the best part is you're doing something good for your body.

Oh my, I've very convicted/inspired after reading this. I wish I'd seen it BEFORE I had a sausage egg mcmuffin, hash brown and large coke for breakfast...
